I’m going to talk about the story, the negatives and the positives of the film then I’m going to do a little talk about the film which can be a spoiler but it is more of a basic way to understand this film.
The story – Lets Recap
The film year is set in 1988 and a mentally disturbed kid has a weird and wonderful name, that is Donnie Darko. This film is based on him and his so-called mental health
This guy Donnie Darko keeps sleepwalking, or sleep cycling out of his house! for some strange reasons
He then meets a giant bunny from Watership Down that tells Donnie that the world will end in 28 days 1 hour and 61 minutes
Donnie shits himself and falls asleep with the date self-drawn on his arm and is woken up on the local golf course, by the best life lover Jimmy CuminYoung.
Donnie is a bit messed up and that’s why he has to see a shrink sometimes in his story – INSERT
Donnies life for the next 28 days is messed up and he sees visions and does some fucking crazy shit without realising, he thinks he screwed in the head
and he keeps interacting with a big roger rabbit bunny called Frank
All the school kids living in this small town are scared and then comes into the plot, the Pope master Jimmy CuminYoung helps the scared kids and tries to enforce them with his own special love and positive mentality
Donnie starts to struggle and rebel even more but things start to become positive in his life when he finds a girlfriend and talks about the Smurfs in deep conversation (insert)
but there’s something just not right in this town, some little strange things are happening especially to Donnie when he can see the future paths of people and himself leading him into trouble.
So the basis of this film is based on a schoolboy that thinks he fucked up but is he though and Im not going into more detail but this is the film, A schoolboy going through life but there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye.
Negatives.
The first time you ever watch this film, I guarantee you will bloody say to yourself… what the fuck just happened there but you will need to watch it again to understand it more.
Its a weird, not weird film and to be honest there are not many negatives to this film in less you look into the finer detail of things
The positives
The cast and their acting are superb, I do not see any misplaced cast part in this film. Even the legendary dirty dancer Patrice’s sweaty pants play a brilliant secret bill cosby
The soundtrack of Being in the 80s is superb, even the music score is bloody good it just fits and sits well in this film.
The storyline is brilliant, like the fact it bears in mind what teenagers are going through in school, in family life and in their own personal life. It is like today’s pain in the bloody-ass teenagers, especially siblings.
It is a film that allows you personally to decipher yourself, it is like a picture of a woman wearing lingerie, you can’t touch her but your mind has to do the rest!
and even Sith lord Rogen is on about breasts again in this film INSERT
Overall
Donnie Darko is a fantastic film, A very original story about a time travel loop, the soundtrack is awesome it’s just bloody great, as the cast the acting the cinematography. Everything is well played here
I would watch this film every 4 or 5 years and that’s why I’m giving it a

It’s a solid 4 out of 5. Buy it now and add it to your sci-fi collection. It is an amazing film but I wouldn’t want to watch this film every year due to spoiling it too much! You might, let me know if you can watch it every year
Spoiler review/understanding
This is a spoiler warning for those that have not seen the movie or for the people that didn’t like it because they didn’t understand it.
I’m giving you a very easier explanation than the real one just for those that might not totally understand this film whatsoever
This is not the correct explanation but a basic one which means you might understand it and enjoy it even more as this film is bloody great.
There are 2 universes, the real one and the tangent one. We are watching the tangent universe that has been stuck on a time loop for a long time.
It started with the aeroplane engine from the future that time travelled back through the vortex to destroy Donnie
This is where the loop begins and every time it loops, Donnie starts becoming consciously self-aware and can tell what things are going to happen
We have clues from the movie INSERT INSERT and even the main soundtrack of the film mad world gives you a clue
and every time the loop happens, Donnie thinks his getting sicker in his mind but also gets a few powers he knows subconsciously how to destroy this tangent universe and the loop to let the real universe carry on and save his family and save his girlfriend
he has to sacrifice himself at the beginning of the end.
This is why when he does sacrifice himself, everybody knows practically everybody as they must have met in one of the loops at some point. INSERT
This film is like groundhog day but we the viewer only see the final loop
That is the easier explanation of Donnie Darko, I know that’s not the right one but it’s simple and then people can enjoy it more understanding, I like to hear your theory or the real theory, so comment below with your cheese.
